Here’s a photo of students working on their project…

For the last week of school in December 2014, I visited a few Art 10 classes at my old high school in Surrey, BC to introduce a few key graphic design concepts to students and to challenge them to create a poster concept with all of the key information a designer needs

to consider.

This is what Marianna said about her new commission…

I have always

been attracted to bright colors; they simply make me happy. For a short time, I was lucky to have the company of one of Aquil’s creations at my desk and found there was something magnetic about it. I would find myself staring at it every time I needed to be re-energized or when I needed inspiration. It was soothing yet alive with color and movement. buy Prozac online When the painting left, there was an emptiness and I knew I had to have one that was made especially for me! This painting is by my side, it stares at me with one determined eye, her face is impassible yet the shocking bright colors convey many emotions. When I look at her, she whispers: you can do anything!”

– Marianna Licciardello is an extremely capable and approachable project leader at L’Oréal as well as a wonderful make-up artist. (You’re the best!) Her commission was an 18 x 36 inch acrylic painting on canvas.

My green highlighter

purchase Prozac Generic Zoloft I try to use a green highlighter for action items.

Small, clearly defined tasks that I can easily act on.
Things like: “Call Becca to confirm event time,” “Design V1 of invitation,” or “ Buy new underwear.”

Why? Well, green means go.

Oh, why are the tasks small and clearly defined?
I think we can scare ourselves into thinking our dreams and goals are overly complex and difficult. Tiger Woods only has two arms. And Wayne Gretzky didn’t have an extra hockey stick. If you consider that our heroes don’t have any superhuman powers, you realize that they started someone and did ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

Once you know what to do, then you find the discipline to simply do it. You stick to the plan. That’s often the hard part.

What do we buy?

We buy inspiration. It’s always worth the repeating. We often buy the feeling we get from something. That’s why these “sales catalogue”

sheets I designed feature a beautiful hair model above all else. The many items, products, tools and bonuses are important in rationalizing a purchase. But the design has to be beautiful so that a

customer is happy to associate themselves with the image, happy to invest in the Matrix brand, happy to spend money on the hairdressing products that will allow them to create beauty. Beauty like the image featured above all else.

Everything’s a priority.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about the observations people often share about time management. For example, the idea that “I don’t have time” should be replaced with “It’s not a priority.” I have that problem a lot. The world is so cool. There are too many awesome things to do. How do you pick between art and improv? Between two different art projects you’d like to pursue? Between painting and dancing? Improvising and playing soccer? How about illustrating or hanging out with your girlfriend? The best you can do, it seems, is to contemplate the relative importance of these competing pursuits and make sure your actual time

spent on each of them is adjusted accordingly.
